Frozen Chocolate Banana Recipe

Frozen bananas are super satisfying… like nature’s popsicles. Covered in chocolate and salty nuts.
Kids will love dipping bananas in melted chocolate and rolling them in sprinkles to make this tasty frozen treat.

These crowd-pleasers are loaded with potassium and antioxidants. This is the perfect summer treat and is super easy to make! The first time I ate a frozen chocolate banana with nuts was at Disneyland as a kid, the frozen banana had a creamy ice cream texture and the nuts are a healthy snack that will keep you fuller longer.

The origin of the Frozen Chocolate Banana is a mystery. There are two kinds of people in Newport Beach: Those who say the frozen banana was invented on Balboa Island, and those who argue it was born a fraction of a mile away on Balboa Peninsula.

But everyone would agree that the frozen banana’s origin is a mystery wrapped inside a chocolate shell surrounded by a crunchy topping.

  • Place chocolate chips into a microwave-safe mug with shortening(oil) and microwave for 1 min (additional time may be needed; microwave in 30-second increments to prevent burning). Stir to combine and make smooth.
  • Dip each frozen banana piece into the mug of melted chocolate. Allow excess chocolate to drip off.
  • Quickly apply toppings while chocolate is still soft (before hardening).
