Flatbread | Nani Loves Tati

Flatbreads are the perfect bread just as they are alongside some soup, with a fresh salad or dunked in some homemade dip.

What is a Flatbread

A flatbread is bread made with flour, water, and salt, and then thoroughly rolled into flattened dough. Flatbreads are the oldest of all bread products and are consumed in North Africa, Southern Europe, the Middle-East, the Indian subcontinent, Turkey, and Central America.

This Flatbread recipe features only 3 ingredients, self-rising flour, salt, and greek yogurt.

If you don't have self-rising flour on hand...for every cup of flour needed, take 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1 & 1/2  teaspoons baking powder and mix thoroughly...voila...self-rising flour!

How to make Flatbread

Mix flour and salt together, stir in yogurt to form a sticky dough. On a well-floured surface, roll sticky dough in flour and divide it into 8 balls.

Roll out with a rolling pin, each ball into a round circle or oblong shape about 8-10 inches. Warm cast iron skillet for 5-10 minutes on medium heat.

Place rolled out dough onto a large dry cast-iron skillet over medium heat.

Flatbread will bubble and brown, then you flip the flatbread over, it will cook about 1-2 minutes on each side.

      Storing Flatbread
      • Store leftover cooked flatbread at room temperature in a zip-lock storage bag for up to 2 days, or 5 days in the fridge.
      • Freeze for up to 3 months in a zip lock freezer bag, press all air out of the freezer bag.
